With the endorsement of the Jane Goodall Institute, the United Nations Environment Programme - Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), the UNEP/UNESCO Great Ape Survival Partnership (GRASP) and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) have joined hands to declare       “2009 the Year of the Gorilla”.

For full details regarding this worthy initiative, which combines both gorilla habitat conservation measures with plans for local alternative, sustainable income opportunities, visit:  www.yog2009.org

Kimbla-Mantana is pleased to announce our support of “2009 The Year of the Gorilla”.  As concerned citizens and investors in the Bwindi, Uganda community, we are proud to have made the following contributions in acknowledgement of this important cause:

· We have donated the farming rights on certain of our already cultivated land to local Bwindi farmers.  With this opportunity, tea farming is used to help support the local Bwindi economy as well as preserving other lands that might have been converted from wild lands to farming.

· We have offered beekeeping equipment to the Bwindi Beekeepers Association and donated the use of locations on our property for the operation of beekeeping activities.  This supports the local Bwindi economy as well as reducing potential encroachment into the Bwindi National Park for beekeeping.

· We built our “Engagi Lodge-Bwindi” using an all local workforce.  Additionally, the entire operations staff at our lodge is now comprised of members of the local Bwindi population.  These actions comprise a continuing financial support of the Bwindi area.

· We have contributed building materials and certain labor in support of upgrading the local Bwindi law enforcement headquarters facility.  This action supports the local law enforcement authorities to serve local businesses as well as social and ecotourism environments.  This, in turn, helps promote sustained economic growth and stability in the Bwindi area.

Ecotourism is a conceptual experience, enriching those who look into researching and understanding the environment around them.  It gives us insight into our impacts, as human beings and also a greater appreciation of our own natural habitats.  In support of this concept, and with the understanding of our responsibilities to be good stewards, Kimbla-Mantana is committed to continue our efforts to enhance our contribution to sustainable economic development in the Bwindi community, and at the same time help protect our forest eco-systems, and in particular the magnificent Mountain Gorillas of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.
